Graphic design student awarded Order of Augusta

“With both the Outstanding Senior award and the Order of Augusta, we recognize and celebrate some extraordinary young people,” said Provost Joyce McConnell. “These students come from different backgrounds and disciplines and they are heading in many directions when they leave WVU, but they are all poised to do great things and to show the world that Mountaineers can do.”

Leonor Elisa Cortez Rodriguez, from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, will graduate with a degree in graphic design and minors in art history and Italian studies. She is a former member of the WVU Equestrian Team and has trained extensively with some of Spain’s leading dance teachers and performers.

Explore Shepard Fairey artwork at ‘Lunchtime Looks’

Shepard Fairey’s work will be the topic of the next Lunchtime Looks at the Art Museum of West Virginia University. 

Teresa Bowser, a senior multidisciplinary studies major, will present the free program on Fairey’s “Water is the New Black” at 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 26. The piece is part of the recently opened exhibition “Shepard Fairey: Work Against the Clampdown.”

Undergraduate work next in the Mesaros Galleries

The West Virginia University School of Art & Design will present the Bachelor of Fine Art Exhibition in the Laura and Paul Mesaros Galleries April 6 – May 12 with a reception in the lobby at 6 p.m. on opening night.

This all-inclusive exhibition represents the culmination of senior capstone projects for all major studio areas including ceramics, graphic design, intermedia and photography, printmaking, painting and sculpture.

WVU film festival to highlight health

This year’s West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival will dive into the systemic challenges of local, national and global health.

Hosted by the Electronic Media program in the West Virginia University School of Art & Design, the three-day festival accepts narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, virtual reality and student pieces on any subject and annually highlights a topical theme in contemporary culture.
