“Noises Off” to premiere at Metropolitan Theatre

Hilarious mishaps, confused relationships and crazy antics are in store for audiences of “Noises Off”, a West Virginia University School of Theatre & Dance production running Oct. 13-16 at the Metropolitan Theatre.

Directed by Leland Blair, associate professor of acting, “Noises Off” follows a group of eclectic American actors as they prepare and produce a British farce.

“‘Noises Off’ is one of the best written farces of all times,” said Blair. “It is slapstick, vaudeville, sit-com and soap opera all rolled into one beautiful, satirical play. It gives the audience a twisted look into the world of theatre and our actors, playing actors playing characters, have opportunities to stretch their comedic skills.”

“Noises Off”, written by Michael Frayn, opened at the Lyric Theatre in London in 1982 and ran until 1987, winning the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy. In 1983, it opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Broadway where it successfully ran for 553 performances and earned Tony Award nominations for Best Play. It was revived most recently on Broadway in 2015, where it was granted an extended run for its success, and was again nominated for a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.

The cast includes graduate acting student Lonnie Simmons and undergraduate acting students Mallory Robson, Josh Clevenger, Stefanie Lemasters, Dominic Massimino Megan Peters and Josh Pelikan. Musical theatre students Patrick Clarke and Haley Hizer round out the cast.

“Noises Off” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13-14, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 and 2 p.m. Oct. 16.
