Danielle Krysa will present the Deem Distinguished Lecture in the West Virginia University School of Art and Design on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Canady Creative Arts Center.

Krysa is the writer behind the contemporary art site, The Jealous Curator, and has curated art shows all over North America. Danielle is also an artist herself, and her narrative mixed media work is held in private collections worldwide. She is the author of several art books, including “Creative Block”, “Your Inner Critic Is A Big Jerk”, “A Big Important Art Book - Now with Women”, and two children’s books; “How To Spot An Artist” and “Art and Joy.”

Krysa has spoke at TEDx, PIXAR, Creative Mornings, and was interviewed in series of video segments on oprah.com about breaking through creative blocks and self-doubt. She has a BFA in Visual Arts, and a post-grad in graphic design.

“I first became aware of Danielle Krysa through her blog and social media presence as ‘The Jealous Curator,’ which she has been operating since 2009,” said Dylan Collins, associate professor of sculpture. “In these platforms, Danielle shares compelling creative work in order to ‘flip the script’ and transform collective feelings of envy and jealousy into appreciation for our fellow artists' creative excellence.

“Danielle is a force of nature not only as a curator, but also as a visual artist and author, and we feel her multivalent skill set will speak volumes to our students as they navigate both personal and collective success in the contemporary art world.”

Funded by Patrick and Alison Deem, the annual Deem Distinguished lecture helps further the WVU education experience by exposing students and faculty to cutting-edge artists and arts supporters.

“For almost 30 years, the Deem Distinguished Lecture Series has brought internationally recognized artists and scholars to present a free public lecture and engage with our students and the Morgantown community, which is certainly a highlight of every school year,” Collins said. “The School of Art and Design is grateful for Alison and Patrick Deem's friendship and camaraderie in supporting this flagship lecture series, which has made an indelible and positive impact on West Virginia University.”

Krysa’s lecture begins at 5 p.m. Sept. 26 in Bloch Learning and Performance Hall at the Canady Creative Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.
