BFA Puppetry

Why did you choose to attend WVU?
When lived in Alaska and I started looking for colleges, I never thought that I would end up in West Virginia of all places. I started looking for some colleges and decided to look and see if I could pursue my love to tv puppetry as a possible career, low and behold, WVU popped up and I applied. Now here I am working hard and doing what I enjoy.

What do you like about your major and your WVU experience?
I love the creativity I can unleash with my puppetry major. I love being able to come up with something and then create life from something unusual. I love working in the shop and building puppets so I can create characters that are 100% my own. Overall I also love knowing that there are others who share my enjoyment of puppetry and the creativity it can spark.

What advice would you give to prospective students considering attending WVU's College of Creative Arts?
I would recommend anyone considering attending that if it’s something you really love, and are willing to put the hard work into it, it’s a great place to be. I have been able to do things I never imagined that I would be able to do, and it’s all because of the hard work and passion for the art.

Have you recently received any awards or scholarships? Have you recently participated in any competitions, productions, performances or exhibitions?
I have recently been involved in the touring shows for the puppet mobile. This has been the highlight of my year, getting to go all around West Virginia and show kids the puppetry art has been great. To see a kid smiling because of seeing the puppets is one of the best things I’ve seen in my two years I’ve been here. I also work with building puppets in the shop and l on e being able to show people how much goes into an puppet to create these things and breathe life into them as well.
