New Music Ensemble will present 'Deep Listening' Oct. 23

New Music EnsembleThe New Music Ensemble in the West Virginia University School of Music will give a free performance at 8 p.m. Oct. 23 in Bloch Hall at WVU's Creative Arts Center.

The program, entitled "Deep Learning," will feature:

Oliveros - Tuning Mediation, full ensemble

Marilyn Shrude - Notturno: In Memoriam Toru Takemitsu (2007), Justin Massey - saxophone; Samantha Donnell - flute; Youngju Lee - piano.

Levi Ferrebee - Three Miniature Studies for Brass (trumpet, tuba), Levi Ferrebee - tuba; Daniel Grimm - trumpet.

Barber - Hesitation-Tango from Souvenirs, Youngju Lee and Alyna Thian - piano;

Derek Pavlik - Untitled Guitar Duet - Derek Pavlik - Mandolin; Andrew Aycoth - Guitar.

Heap - "Sigh No More"/"Oh Mistress Mine" from Four Songs from Shakespeare, Bonnie Blanchard - soprano; Alec Duggan - cello; Youngju Lee - piano.

Schnittke - Moz-Art for 2 Violins, Abigail Watson, Sean Elliott - violin.

Riley - In C, full ensemble. 

Ferrebee and Pavlik are both composition students at WVU. The concert is free and open to the public.
