Music professor featured in BBC documentary

Travis Stimeling

West Virginia University’s Travis Stimeling shared his knowledge of the country music industry in “Rich Hall’s Countrier Than You,” which aired March 17 on British Broadcasting Corporation in the United Kingdom.

Stimeling, assistant professor of music history, was contacted by the production team after Hall read his first book, “Cosmic Cowboys and New Hicks: The Countercultural Sounds of Austin’s Progressive Country Music Scene.”

“I was ecstatic to hear that Rich had read my book and I thought contributing to this project was a great way to share my research,” Stimeling said. “I knew that country music has a large fan base in the United Kingdom and that they’d be interested in learning more about this important time in the industry’s history.”

In the documentary, Hall takes a country music journey from Tennessee to Texas to look at the movements and artists that don't get as much notoriety but have helped shape the genre over the years.

Stimeling provides commentary on the behind-the-scenes workings of country music throughout the hour-long documentary. To watch “Rich Hall’s Countrier Than You,” click here.
