Major and Minor: Marketing and Management with a minor in Dance

Why did you choose to attend WVU?

The atmosphere! The minute I walked on to campus for "Decide WVU Day" I was saw such a great energy throughout the whole campus. On top of that the numerous ways to get involved on campus through clubs made this feel like the perfect home for me.

What do you like about your major and your WVU experience?

I love how welcoming the Dance Program Instructors are and how I have the opportunity to learn while also still retaining what I do. As a street artist I never had any formal training and I was very insecure when I took my first dance class as I thought that nobody would take me seriously because I wasn't good at the more formal styles of dance. However everyone from the students to the teachers were very warm and encouraging and genuinely just wanted to see me succeed as opposed to other teachers I have meant in the past who would belittle me for not being able to keep up in class. I also love that the dance program helps gives me tools to improve upon my unique talents as opposed to trying to make me conform to a "traditional" artist.

What advice would you give to prospective students considering attending WVU's College of Creative Arts?

Try out EVERYTHING. I came into WVU as a street artist who had never had formal training in dance or any other artistic discipline. Through the College Of Creative Arts I was exposed to so many different styles of dance like Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and even Israel Folk dancing. Don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone everybody here is super friendly and welcoming and everyone wants to see you improve so if you try out something you may not be very good at (like me and ballet) keep working and keep trying and do not be afraid to reach out for help no one is going to judge you poorly for trying.
