Name: Sage Perrott
Graduation Year: 2010
Degree(s) Received: BFA Printmaking
Why did you choose to attend WVU?
The Promise Scholarship kept me in the state, and I felt WVU had the strongest art
program. I knew I had made a solid decision when I took my first printmaking class.
Joe Lupo is an incredibly valuable asset to the art program at WVU, and that was
not lost on me, even as a young student. Additionally, the facilities and opportunities
available to me surpassed my expectations. I started as a double major, but dropped
my other major in favor of spending more time and focus on art, specifically printmaking.
What is your profession now?
I am Assistant Professor of Printmaking at East Tennessee State University.
What is your most interesting current/upcoming project?
I am headed to a residency at Arrowmont, and hoping to make a lot of progress on
artwork for an upcoming solo show. I also have a resin cast creature in the works,
which is new for me, as I am typically a 2D artist. And, I am working on updating
the university studio, as well as a personal/community studio space (shared with
my partner) in town.
How do you feel WVU and the College of Creative Arts prepared you for your career?
My classes at WVU gave me the foundation for most everything I do in my career now.
I learned lithography, intaglio, and screenprinting, which are all processes I
teach now to college students. Most of my artwork is made using some form of screenprinting.
I still keep in touch with people I met during my time there, too. We sometimes
collaborate (shout out to Brett Kern!)
