CCA announces 2019 summer camps

Viola Bootcamp Participants

Summer is the perfect time for children and teens passionate about the arts to further explore their interests. From Cosplay to painting, the West Virginia University College of Creative Arts offers a summer program perfect for every budding artist. 

Visual Arts Academy

June 23 – 28 

The WVU School of Art & Design will hosts it’s fourth Visual Arts Summer Academy at WVU Creative Arts Center. Under the supervision of faculty, students will participate in studio art workshops during the week. Supervised by student counselors and faculty in WVU’s Art Education program, participants will reside in the Evansdale Residential Complex near the Creative Arts Center. Faculty from WVU’s School of Art & Design will facilitate this camp and art teachers from around the state of West Virginia will teach individual workshops.

Acting Academy

Young Academy, ages 7 – 11: June 17 – 21

Teen Academy, ages 12 – 18: June 16 – 22

The Summer Acting Academy is a one-week professional theatre training program for young actors who wish to explore and develop their skills in all areas of performance, including voice and speech, scene work, movement, stage combat, musical theatre and improvisation. Open to students of all levels of theatre experience, the Summer Acting Academy provides quality training for the beginning actor, as well as advanced level study for the young actor with previous experience. All classes take place on WVU Evansdale Campus in the Creative Arts Center and are led by WVU Faculty and guest artists.

Dance Academy

June 23 – 29 

Summer Dance Academy is broken into three categories: Teachers Academy, Young Academy and Teen Academy. Programming for children and teens includes age-appropriate daily instruction in a variety of dance styles, which will include Ballet, Creative Movement, Jazz, Hip-hop and Tap, as well as wellness and conditioning. Cosplay Academy

August 5 – 9 

Teens will love this one-week program where students will build costumes and accessories from start to finish to represent a specific character. Open to students ages 13 and up, participants will build armor and accessories from a variety of materials and fabric and learn to cut, dye and style their own wigs. Acting and improvisation techniques will also be taught so students can utilize their costumes. Information on Cosplay academy can be found at http://bit.ly/wvusca.

Percussion Camp

June 24 – 28 

Percussion camp includes clinics and workshops by WVU Percussion faculty George Willis, Dr. Michael Vercelli and Brian Wolfe. In addition to clinics with faculty, performances by The Willis Duo, Mountain Men Percussion Ensemble, Dr. David Newcomb, and more. Other activities include percussion ensemble rehearsals and performances and drum line activities.

Viola Bootcamp

June 17 - 20

WVU Viola Bootcamp features daily lessons, master classes, technique classes, viola ensemble, ample practice time, lectures, performances, bluegrass and olde time jam session, movie night, and a finale recital. Open to high school juniors and up, undergraduates, graduate students, adult amateurs, teachers, professionals and those wanting to learn more about the viola.

Community Music Program

Dates vary

The staff of the Community Music Program provides a comprehensive program of musical training for the amateur performer, enlightened listener, professional musician and talented young person interested in further nurturing skills.
