Jack MoffettName: Jack Moffett

Title: Part-time Lecturer

What classes do you teach?

Design Issues, Design for Change, Information Visualization, and Game Design

What advice to you have for students wanting to take your classes, or in general, classes in the College of Creative Arts?

My classes are intended to expand a student's understanding of the design landscape and help them find their place in it. Students would best come to my class understanding that, even in their senior year (or as a graduate student), there is so much more to learn. At the same time, I hope that they are excited by the possibilities that a degree in design opens to them. I expect students to be self-driven, and they will get the most out of my classes by sending me interim work for review between meetings.

What are your research interests, and are there any projects you are currently working on?

As an adjunct professor, I do not carry out research, but I frequently speak at conferences on topics such as design documentation and UX debt, and I've published a book titled "Bridging UX & Web Development". I write about design regularly on my blog, DesignAday: http://designaday.tumblr.com. I am currently a Regional Coordinator for IxDA local groups in North America, and co-chair of IxDA Pittsburgh. I chaired Midwest UX in 2015. My full-time job is with Boeing as a manager of a small UX team working on software for the authoring, management, and delivery of technical information.
