The Art Museum of West Virginia University will celebrate its third birthday with activities for the whole family from 12:30 - 3 p.m. Saturday, August 25.

A variety of free activities for children will be available during the birthday party including face painting, sidewalk chalk drawing, a hands-on art project and a scavenger hunt. The museum’s exhibitions, Flowing Beyond Heaven and Earth: Chinese Master Ceramists, Form and Balance: Ceramics from the Collection and Impulse: A Trip Inside, will be open during the birthday party. Museum docents and volunteers will be on hand in the galleries to assist visitors as they engage in art.

Birthday cake will be cut at 1 p.m. during the celebration and will be available while supplies last.

The Art Museum of WVU opened in 2015 and has since welcomed thousands of visitors through its doors. Many of its visitors have been school children enjoying their first ever museum experience.

“The Art Museum of WVU has become a cultural and educational force in our community, and our third birthday party is a welcome opportunity for folks to visit the Museum and Nath Sculpture Garden, see the art on display, and have children engage in a variety fun and artistic activities,” said Bernie Schultz, interim co-director of the museum and dean and professor emeritus.

The Art Museum of WVU is located next to the Creative Arts Center at the corner of Patteson Drive and Morrill Way on WVU’s Evansdale Campus. Parking is available across from the museum in short term parking lots. The Art Museum of WVU houses more than 3,000 works of art in two exhibition galleries totaling 5,400 square feet, plus a two-acre sculpture garden. Admission is always free.
