4/17: Art Up Close

Nath Sculpture Garden

“Art in the Landscape: Traditions in Sculpture Garden Design” and the Nath Sculpture Garden will be the focus of the Art Up Close! program scheduled for Tuesday, April 17.

Presented by Peter M. Butler, associate professor and extension specialist in landscape architecture and director of the School of Design and Community Development in the Davis College, the program begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Museum Education Center Grand Hall and is free and open to the public.

The program will discuss the landscape of sculpture gardens with a focus on the Nath Sculpture Garden at the Art Museum of WVU.

Butler’s research includes landscape architecture history, cultural landscape planning, and community design process and pedagogy. He integrates service-learning courses through the Community Engagement Lab and the Community Resources and Economic Development program at WVU Extension Service.

Art Up Close! events are held throughout the academic year and present the WVU faculty and guest artists from various disciplines discussing a single work of art from the perspectives of their disciplines. The events are co-sponsored by the Friends of the Museum, a membership group for people who enjoy the arts and social, educational and cultural activities revolving around art.
