NCECA

The West Virginia University School of Art & Design will host the Annual Conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts in the greater Pittsburgh area March 14 – 17.

NCECA is the leading organization dedicated to a global perspective on ceramic arts and education. A dynamic membership organization that fosters global education and appreciation for the ceramic arts, NCECA’s programs, exhibitions and public events promote and improve the ceramic arts through education, community building, research and creative inspiration.

The conference, open to NCECA members and the public, will include a range of lectures, panel discussions, artist projects, demonstrations and networking opportunities. Special programming for K-12 and college students are also incorporated into the conference to teach students about ceramics study, residency opportunities, services and products.

The conference is expected to bring in more than 5,000 attendees to the David. L Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. There are also corresponding art exhibitions and demonstrations throughout the area, including at the Art Museum of WVU.

NCECA’s Executive Director Joshua Green writes, “To NCECA’s followers from throughout the United States and abroad, Pittsburgh represents an urban nexus of natural beauty, technological innovation, and exceptional cultural assets. Pittsburgh embodies diverse traditions and a spirit of reinvention. The region’s character will resonate deeply with those engaged in the ongoing evolution of the ceramic arts.”

WVU’s School of Art & Design to host the conference partnered with the Society for Contemporary Craft, Manchester Craftmen’s Guild, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and Slippery Rock University.
