WVU dance students to present ‘A Celebration of Dance’ Nov. 9-10

Celebration of Dance

The West Virginia University School of Theatre and Dance will present “A Celebration of Dance” Nov. 9-10 at the Creative Arts Center.

“A Celebration of Dance” is an annual concert choreographed and performed by students that gives them the opportunity to participate in a rigorous and professional environment as a building block toward their goals as professional artists.

WVU student choreographers create their piece to convey a story or idea through movement and many themes of the show stem from their own passions and interests.

“This year we had a record number of student choreographers applying to present their work in the concert,” said Yoav Kaddar, director of dance. “This will be an eclectic program with something for everyone.”

For dancers performing the pieces choreographed by their fellow students, the audition and preparation process is nearly identical to what they will face in the industry.

“All performers begin the process through a required audition, which in itself is a learning experience and one that is vital for them as performing artists,” said Kaddar. “After performers are selected, they spend weeks learning and rehearsing these new pieces.”

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday night in the Falbo Theatre. Tickets are available through the WVU Box Office at 304-293-SHOW or by visiting Ticketmaster.
