WVU World Music Showcase Concert to be held Friday, Nov. 3

World Music ShowcaseThe West Virginia University World Music Performance Center will present its fall showcase concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 at the Creative Arts Center.

The program will feature the Morning and Afternoon Steel Bands, the Brazilian Ensemble, African Music and Dance Ensemble, and Bluegrass and Old Time Band. 

The Steel Bands will play a variety of popular and traditional steel band charts on instruments originating from Trinidad and Tobago. The WVU Brazilian Ensemble will present a range of different samba arrangements using a variety of Brazilian percussion instruments in different styles to showcase musical diversity within Brazil. 

The program will also include a world premiere arrangement for cuicas, a Brazilian friction drum. WVU African Music and Dance Ensemble will perform arrangements of music from Guinea and Uganda. Selections featuring the WVU Bluegrass and Old Time Band will highlight the music of Appalachia.

The concert will be held in the Lyell B. Clay Concert. Tickets are $12 adults, $8 for seniors, $7 for children, and free for all WVU students with valid ID. For tickets and more information, call the WVU Box Office at (304) 293-SHOW or visit ticketmaster.com.
