The School of Music at West Virginia University will host the International Flute Symposium at the Creative Arts Center July 5-9.
IFS offers a wide variety of performances, workshops and masterclasses as well as the largest roster of world-renowned flutists and university professors from the orchestral, classical and jazz fields of any university flute symposium in the United States.
IFS programming is open to flutists of all abilities ages 12 through adult. IFS events include daily flute masterclasses, flute choirs and gala concerts as well as body mapping and flute repair workshops, high school and young artist competitions, and private lessons. Concerts and galas surrounding IFS are free and open to the public.
All concerts will be held in Bloch Hall, located on the ground floor of the Creative Arts Center. Concert schedule:
July 5, 8 p.m.: Opening Gala Concert with Nina Assimakopoulos and Alberto Almarza
July 6, 8 p.m.: Flutes on Fire featuring the BETA Quartet
July 7, 8 p.m.: Jasmine Choi
July 8, 8 p.m.: The U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps
July 9, 11:30 a.m.: Closing Gala Concert
