CCA welcomes Therapy Dog

Daisy, a two-year-old Labradoodle, is the newest ‘staff’ member at the West Virginia University College of Creative Arts.

As the college’s therapy dog, Daisy will be responsible for easing stress and providing a daily dose of happiness to everyone she greets.

New class of Canady Scholars named

The West Virginia University College of Creative Arts has named 26 students as Canady Scholars. To be considered for the award, students must have a high grade-point average, faculty references and be fluent in two languages.

The Canady Scholarship is awarded thanks to the Valerie Canady Charitable Trust Foundation. The scholarships are named for Valerie Canady, a Morgantown native and WVU summa cum laude graduate, who was among the 270 people who died in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in Dec. 1988. Canady, who worked for H.J. Heinz Co. in their London office, was an accomplished linguist and artist in different media of expression, especially in piano.

School of Theatre performs ‘Right to be Forgotten’ through Oct. 2

New school year, new faculty in Theatre & Dance

Tammy Honesty and Ryan Scoble are the two newest faculty members in West Virginia University’s School of Theatre & Dance.

In Honesty’s more than twenty-five-year career as an educator, she has taught both full- and part-time at a variety of universities ranging from 2-year programs to 4-year conservatory programs. She is a native Ohioan and holds degrees from Wilmington College of Ohio and West Virginia University.

Mikylah Myers promoted to new Associate Dean position

Mikylah Myers has been named Associate Dean of Artistic and Scholarly Achievement at the West Virginia University College of Creative Arts.

Myers has filled the role of Assistant Dean of Student Artistic Achievement for the last three years and has been a WVU faculty member since 2007.

WVU mourns the passing Kacy Wiedebusch

West Virginia University’s “First Lady of Dance,” Mary Kathryne “Kacy” Wiedebusch passed away on July 5.

A Clarksburg native, Wiedebusch earned her bachelor’s and master’s of arts from WVU and continued her professional studies in New York City. She returned to West Virginia and started teaching at Morgantown High School as a physical education teacher in the late 1940s, starting the Junior Orchesis Dance program there.
