WVU music professor releases new CD

Professor of string bass and music theory Andrew Kohn released a CD of the compositions of Allan Blank. WVU Music faculty Mark Benincosa and Michael Ibrahim collaborated on the project along with University of Pittsburgh faculty member Rob Frankenberry. Allan Blank (1925-2013) was an outstanding and prolific modernist composer who taught at Virginia Commonwealth University, 1978-1996.

The CD includes three works: "Four Studies" for contrabass, "Introduction, Seven Vignettes, and Conclusion" for alto saxophone and contrabass, and "Variations on 'The Turkish Lady'" for contrabass and piano. The third piece is a theme and variations based on a Child Ballad from Virginia called "The Turkish Lady."

The album is available through major outlets including CD Baby, Amazon, and iTunes.

"Allan Blank: Works with Contrabass" continues a project begun with a CD released by Albany in 2012: "Allan Blank: Song Cycles with Double Bass and Piano."
